For RMLL players who will be Little League age 9 through 12 for the 2020 season, Rocky Mountain Little League will operate spring travel teams again this year. We anticipate running a Majors team (ages 12 and 11) and a Minors team (ages 10 and 9). Subject to having enough qualified players, we may run two teams in each age group, and rosters for games may include players from both teams depending on availability and coaches discretion. Final team structure and numbers are subject to change, based upon coach and player interest and availability.

Evaluation dates are as follows:

  • OPTIONAL - open practice session - January 24 - Coyote Den from 5.00 pm to 7.00 pm
  • Tryout #1 - January 26:  Duvernay Fieldhouse from 6.00 to 8.00 pm
  • Tryout #2 - January 31:  Coyote Den from 5.00 to 7.00 pm

Players are asked to attend both tryout sessions.

If you are interested in trying out for the Travel Teams but cannot attend one or both evaluation sessions due to other commitments, please indicate that on the evaluation sign up form (link below). If you have other questions, please email vpmajors@rockymountainlittleleague.com.

Rocky Mountain Spring Travel Baseball is a winter/spring program aimed at improving the skill set of the strongest players in Rocky Mountain Little League. The program is a combination of indoor practices (2 per week most weeks), including fielding, pitching and batting practice, indoor exhibition games, and outdoor games/practices once weather permits. It is expected that most practices and games will take place on weeknights and weekends in Calgary and Okotoks, although we anticipate playing in one or two tournaments out of town as well.

February practice times are primarily as follows:

- Tuesdays from 4.30 pm to 5.30 pm at Coyote Den (Pitching/Catching)

- Sundays from 10 am to Noon at Duvernay Fieldhouse (Hitting/Defense)

March practice times are primarily as follows:

- Tuesdays from 4.30 pm to 5.30 pm at Coyote Den (Pitching/Catching)

- Sundays from 6 pm to 8 pm at Duvernay Fieldhouse (Hitting/Defense)

Teams will not practice on Family Day weekend or during CBE Spring Break dates. April game and practice schedule is TBD but likely will involve games in Calgary and Lethbridge on weekends (weather permitting).

Game play will be based on the concept of "equal play" for all players on the roster, keeping the focus clearly on player development at all positions and maximizing the overall baseball IQ and skills of our players. Emphasis will be placed on sportsmanship, effort, playing the game the right way, and becoming a better all-around ballplayer.

The season runs from January 26th (first of two evaluation sessions) through April 26th. The first practice is February 2nd at 10 am in Okotoks.

Spots are limited, and selection to a team is based on an evaluation process. All player selections will be made by the coaching staffs and various league directors, and there will not be space for every player that is interested - team selection is based on skill and ability. Should your child be selected for one of the teams, the cost of the program is $300 per player, plus any expenses required for out of town tournaments or any training session, umpire, and uniform expenses that exceed the amount collected via registration fees. Payment is due only upon confirmation/acceptance of your child earning a spot on the team. The Spring Travel Team evaluation session requires a $20 payment from each player (paid in cash or cheque at the Jan 26 or 31 session).

If we do not have a minimum of 11 players to form each of the teams, we will be unable to offer a spring season for that age group. We understand that most players will have other sports and activities that conflict with some Spring Travel Team practices and games, and that should not deter players from participating.

Additional Information:

  • First Evaluation Session - Jan 26th - 6.00 to 8.00 pm - Duvernay Fieldhouse in Okotoks
  • Second Evaluation Session - Jan 31st - 5.00 to 7.00 pm - Coyote Den in Calgary
  • Evaluation Fee - $20 payable in person via cash or cheque to CRMBA
  • All players attending evaluations must already be registered for the 2020 RMLL House League season - no exceptions.
  • Players must have a birthdate between September 1, 2007 and August 31, 2011 (if born after August 2011, pre-approval is required).
  • Players who are interested in playing but cannot attend either evaluation session may be required to attend an invite-only session (date TBD).
