Minors

Overview:

Pitching becomes part of the game and your child’s coaches should be encouraging as many of their players as possible to pitch, at least in practice situations. This is still a developmental division and a strong emphasis remains on teaching basic skills, as many of our players will be learning the game for the first time. The game moves to larger diamonds (60’ baselines) and follows most of the rules in the Little League Rulebook; however we also employ “House League Rules” which we have found are appropriate for better play at this level.

This is the first age group where players are evaluated, so please ensure that your child attends the mandatory evaluation sessions held in March. This evaluation process allows us to build balanced teams for season play. Players who are league age 9 and receive low evaluation scores will be placed in the Rookie Ball Senior Division. Players who are league age 9 and are placed in Rookie Ball Senior will receive a refund to reflect the fee difference between Minors and Rookie Ball.

Minors is also the first Division where various All-Star teams will continue with Little League Tournament play after the regular season. Attendance at All-Star evaluations are mandatory for interested players (unless prior arrangements have been made) and take place in early June. All-Star team selection is primarily based on skill and ability, and not all players will be selected to an All-Star team.

Parents Need to Provide:

Participants are supplied with a numbered baseball jersey (which must be returned at the end of the season), ball cap, baseball pants, baseball “sleeves”, a belt and baseball socks (all of which they keep).

Parents must supply players with:

  • Batting helmet with face guard/cage
  • Cleats (non-metal) or running shoes
  • Baseball glove,
  • Athletic supporter or compression shorts (mandatory in Little League).

Please be aware that a face guard on the helmet is mandatory for this division. Also make sure it fits properly, is NOCSAE approved, and is marked (athletic tape works well) to identify it as your child’s.

Many players have or will wish to purchase their own baseball bats. All non-wood or laminated bats must have a "USA Baseball" approved logo and must be at least 27 inches long. No exceptions (this includes practices and games). Solid one-piece wood barrel bats do not require a USA Baseball logo.

Age and Ability:

This level of play is primarily designed for Little League age 9 and 10 year-olds, although very strong 8 year-olds may register in Rookie Ball Senior and attend Minors evaluations. Players who are league age 9 and receive low evaluation scores will be placed in the Rookie Ball Senior Division. Link to Little League age chart:  Age Chart

League-age 11 year olds who are not placed or drafted onto a Majors Division team (based on evaluation results and the number of available spots in Majors) will be placed in the Minors Division. Players who are Little League age 10 and want to be considered for a Majors team must attend evaluations for both the Minors and Majors Divisions.

Players with a birthday between September 1, 2013 and August 31, 2015 will register in the Minors Division and attend Minors Evaluations. Requests for exceptions must be noted during the registration process, and are approved at the sole discretion of the league's Player Agent.

Cost:

Cost is $375 for the regular season. Players registering after February 29, 2024 must pay a $100 late registration fee, so please register before this date.

Schedule Information:

Games are played on various days Monday through Saturday. Sundays may be required to make-up rained out games, and most teams will have practices on weekends and/or weeknights. Most weeks there will be two games scheduled plus one or two practices. The season starts in late April and playoffs run through the end of June.

The schedule will be published after enough parents have volunteered to coach and teams can be finalized, usually in mid-April.

Players typically arrive for games between 5.30 to 5.45 pm, with first pitch at 6.30 pm.

Where Games Are Played:

  • Minors games are played at our Blackfoot North, Mount Royal, Oakridge and St. Catherine's (Canyon Meadows) Diamonds.
